Inside TV Land

(Mon., TVL) Would the Austin Powers films be possible without Get Smart (1965-70)?  The spy spoof was a parody trailblazer, yet it's easy to forget how smart Smart was.  This penetrating report gives credit where credit is due:  Mel Brooks invented the shoe phone, Buck Henry created the "cone of silence," and Don Adams's Agent Maxwell Smart made it all work.  Like most sitcom stories, this one ends with cancellation and career struggles.  But Inside calls the show a classic, and it has the clips and quotes to make its case.  My score: 8
